Anyone know what the heck that thing is they are building out in front of the Fashion Show Mall? Is it a space antenna, or maybe some kind of generator fueled by vice and despair? Is it monorail related?

Update: It's one of these.

Heh. Check out this 1974 review of a then new game called Dungeons & Dragons.
[via Boing Boing by way of Allen Varney]

Ah, the good ol' days back when gamer meant roleplaying geek. While my gaming history doesnt go as far back as above(in 1974 I was in utero. I started in the mid 80s with Palladium's games), I do have a battered 1977 Traveller boxset I picked up at a garage sale several years ago.

Oh, and while I'm at it... Gulf War II: The Reckoning.

Protesting the Protesters.

Evan Coyne Maloney played devil's advocate and interviewed protesters at the NY rally last weekend. [thanks Josh]

While I'm with the crowd in saying that war in Iraq is not something we should be jumping into(honestly, it's the repercussions I'm most worried about), it's always a good idea to have your opinions questioned, no matter what side you're on.

Japan-A-Radio. J-pop with stereotypical American Radio announcers. Great background music for when you don't want to be distracted by english lyrics. And hell, you really haven't lived until you've heard ska and rockabilly in Japanese.

Mainichi Daily News. I love you WaiWai headline writers.

Okay, so I'm a little behind the times, but Swappingtons is just neat. From the site:

Swappingtons is a www site that's all about swapping books, music and movies between people who love books, music and movies. How it works is this: If you have a book, CD or DVD, etc., that you don't want anymore, you can list it on Swappingtons, and when someone else wants it, they can give you swap points for it. At that point, you mail the item to them, the points are transferred to your account, and now it's your turn to find items that other members have listed and trade them your swap points for them. The best part is that once you get an item from someone and you finish reading, listening or viewing it, you can just list it on the site again and get something else once you swap it out!

Thanks to Andre for the heads up. He also pointed out Audioscrobbler which I was going to say something about but it seems to be down right now so I won't.

Hmm, anyone in Vegas looking to hire a designer? Let me know, I'm in need of a job.

[Update: Whataya know, I'm employed again. Interesting how things always seem to work out right when I'm on the edge of panicking.]

[Update Update: Well maybe not, looks like I'm still being strung along. We shall see. So yeah, I have no qualms against anyone sending me job offers.]

So I'm quitting smoking. A few days ago the Girl I'm Dating announced that she was quitting, so I figured what the hell, I might as well do the same. Besides, I'll still have caffeine, right?

So now I'm on my 2nd day. None of the anxiety or agitation I've been reading about and expecting. I feel fine. This almost seems to be too easy.

But if that goddamn bird yells one more time I swear I'm going to throw my fucking coffeecup into the wall.
