Just a quick note for those that are unaware... The National Do Not Call Registry, a national opt-out list for telemarketers, is finally open for sign-ups. Nevada will be most likely adopting the registry as the state Do Not Call list, so list your numbers now. All numbers registered by August 31, 2003 will be included on the first implementation of the list, going into operation on October 1st.

Josh takes on the RIAA file sharing FAQ. Also, while we're on the topic, an NPR interview with Cary Sherman, president of the RIAA.

So I've returned to the realm of full time employment. Next week I start work as a designer for Park Place Entertainment. Still need to fill out paperwork and sign off on the personal jet and highroller suites, but I'm more or less employed. I've lived my entire life in Las Vegas and this will be the first time I've ever worked for a gaming company. Well, not exactly, long time ago I was a tour guide at the dolphin pool in the Mirage, but well, that doesn't really count.

So I'm reading through the entries in Adam Kalsey's Newly Digital, a collection of early computing memories which I hope to contribute to, when BAM, I see it. A reference to Mail Order Monsters(FAQ, front cover, back cover), possibly my favorite game of all time. In my distorted memory(thanks to losing the disks years ago) I've always called it Monster Construction Set, most likely due to the myriad of other titles from the era with similar names (Adventure Construction Kit, Racing Destruction Set, etc, all published by Electronic Arts). Anyway, I'm thrilled. Time to fire up an emulator and relive some memories. Trivia: Paul Reiche III, a designer for Mail Order Monsters, was also one of the masterminds behind Archon and Star Control.

A Summer Tip!!! Have some bananas laying around that are just a bit too ripe for assaulting others or regular peel-back-and-eat style eating? Too lazy to make banana bread? Make freezer banana pop things instead. Take oldish(but not nasty old) banana. Remove and discard peel. Set peeled banana on a sheet of plastic wrap. Fold plastic wrap over the banana and mash it(the banana) into whatever shape you find most pleasing and/or efficient for storage. Rectangles are a good shape, being both pleasing and efficient. Freeze. You may eat your banana pops whenever the desire strikes you. Or keep them in the freezer indefinitely, waiting for the species to go extinct so you can sell them on the blackmarket.

Go kill 15 minutes or so. Scored 35.7002% myself. Did fairly well on the geek questions, not so well on the nerd questions. Oh, and, technically, what the hell is a geek party? |
