Great apes (hominids) do not have tails, while monkeys do. Research indicates that great apes are very productive in the areas of software maintenance and report writing, while most monkeys will struggle. Monkeys however are great at software testing. So the rule of thumb is, if you don’t have a tail, you can probably program.

My new favorite opening line from a novel: It has been reported that Tanuki fell from the sky using his scrotum as a parachute. Overall, Tom Robbins' Villa Incognito is a decent story, although I've heard the rather thin book ends a bit abruptly. Like everything else he's written, it's very readable, but I dunno, it just hasn't grabbed me like past books. Villa Incognito does feature, however, the best use of Tanuki since Super Mario 3. .... The long awaited update for the Hiptop is finally upon us, and should be magically beaming itself into our phones in the next week or so. Nice timing on Danger's part, as the contracts of the early adopters will be up soon, and without this update I'm sure a good number of em would not be returning. I, for one, am looking forward to finally having a calculator on my phone. Update: S4xton has it, check out his amazing video!

George Rarey's WWII sketchbook. [via mefi] Scanned and assembled on the web by his son Damon(who has since passed away, leaving a legacy of his own), this collection of drawings and journal entries tells George's story from the time of his drafting and pilot training in January 1942, to his death on June 26th, 1944, several weeks after D-Day.

I've been listening to a lot of Collide, an independent electro-industial band currently on their 3rd full release(in addition to a hell of a remix album). Intense melodic-electronic sounds backed by a strong and steady female vocalist, I'm surprised this band isn't more recognized than they are. They sure beat the hell out of Evanescence. I've had their current album, Some Kind of Strange, in the cdplayer for a week. Alongside Wolfsheim's excellent Casting Shadows, it stands as one of the best things I've heard this year. As a bonus, from the limited time I've spent with the rest of their catalog, it's all quality. Hell, go listen for yourself. (Incidentally, both are artists I might have passed over or missed entirely were it not for p2p file-sharing networks.) What're you listening to these days? |
