Everyone love a remake! Stephen King has been busy lately, adapting Lars Von Trier's classic horror film/mini-series The Kingdom for American audiences. Initially filmed as a 15 hour mini-series(to be aired on ABC), I wouldn't be surprised(or terribly thrilled) if this ends up as a regular addition to ABC's weekly lineup. No word as to whether he'll be following the storyline of Lars' original(including the sequel, and a third that went unfilmed due to the death of Ernst-Hugo Järegård, a key actor in the original series), or simply using it a launching pad for his own ideas.

The new series will be helmed by director Craig R. Baxley, whose blockbuster resume includes such hits as Action Jackson and a crapload of made-for-TV movies.

Found the following while digging around the arstechnica Case & Cooling Fetish forum. I'm sure this has made the rounds at one time or another, but it's new to me, either that or I've forgotten enough that it's new to me again:

Building a PC in a NeXt cube.

Built a new Wintendo. Slightly overclocked AMD 2600+ on an nforce2 board. Still ironing out the wrinkles; hopefully when I get home I'll find a days worth of successful memtest runs rather than a list of errors or a burned out husk.

From Video Games are Addictive, under the header VIOLENCE SPILLS OVER:

Children from the age of 10 are now starting to play online games, he said, and families should know it is radically different from comics.

"Game entertainment is not a classic media experience. It has a potency that offers a new psychological experience," Kline said, adding he could imagine violent experiences in games to spill over in real life.

And I can imagine a hack journalist, a laptop computer with a net connection and a couple of annoyed academics. [via Jilian Dibbell]

Remember this, parents. Video games cause violence, unlike the obviously safe and benign comic book.

If you don't have plans yet for this weekend, go see Hedwig and the Angry Inch at the Nevada Theatre Company near Summerlin. It's the final weekend of the production with shows Friday and Saturday night.

You may want to call ahead to reserve tickets, and be sure to arrive early, as the seating (couches, chairs, bean bags, floor... Girlfriend and I managed to score a loveseat when we went) is first come first serve.

Also, First Friday is this uh, Friday.
