Update: Final words on the cancellation.
The cause for the cancellation was apparently due to the desire by SRL to allow the audience to be closer to the event than previously allowed. Clark County Fire Department Public Information Officer Robert Leinbach confirmed that SRL had been granted a permit for the performance by the county's fire department. He said that SRL asked about making changes to their approved event form, and were told to resubmit an event form reflecting the changes. The approved permit allowed for a buffer area of 50 feet between audience and performance area. It looks as though SRL declined to reapply, and instead abandoned the event altogether.
Well hell. Just got a call from UNLV Tickets, letting me know that the Survival Research Labs show has been cancelled and that my tickets would be refunded.
According to SRL, it seems the show was canned "due to unreasonable restrictions imposed by the Las Vegas Fire Department."
Sigh. Guess it's the gallery exhibit or nothing.
Inspired by Ryan's find, I went digging. This is the oldest trace I can find of myself on the internet, a 1994 post to alt.fan.oingo-boingo, where I recount a show they'd just played at the Aladdin.
Mm, nostalgia. One of these nights, I'm going to wire up the Atari and shuffle through the stacks of floppy disks sitting in the back of a cabinet in the garage. I should have BBS forum and Fidonet archives at least, assuming the disks are still readable. I suppose it'd be a good time to back up the bits worth saving, as well.
Then again, I said I was gonna do that three years ago and I still haven't, so take it with what you will.

I've mentioned those bands before, haven't I?
Anyway, thanks to the new and wonderfully informative LV Arts & Culture, I have become aware that not only does Survival Research Labs have an upcoming exhibition in Donna Beam Gallery at UNLV, but that they will be performing at the Silverbowl Sam Boyd Stadium on Saturday, Feb 7th. From what I've read, these guys put on a hell of a show.
