Here's my used bird collection. Two African Greys, Nagano and Gari. Nagano(a Congo Grey) was a feather plucker and a screamer when I first received her(the first shot was a week or two after she came home, the third is her today), now she's merely loud. This bird is one of the most outgoing parrots I've known, and is a total attention whore. As she's only 4, there's a good chance she'll outlive me.

Gari is vintage 1960s Timneh. She was imported back before it was illegal to do so, and had various homes before I ended up with her. She developed a cancerous tumor in her wing, and her last owner, unable to take care of her, left her with a pet store, who in turn left her with the vet. After removing the tumor(which left her with half a wing), they gave her to me. She's a sweetheart, but introverted and slightly fearful. It took me a while to get her off the seed diet she'd been fed forever, and she's only just starting to play with toys. Not much of a talker, she prefers to meow and bark.

Birds are weird pets. I always thought of them along the same lines as guinea pigs or something. You have to feed them, clean up after them, etc. And they can't really return any affection. (Okay, birds can more than guinea pigs, but you know what I mean.)

I take care of (spoil) my cat, and he wakes me up in the middle of the night, purring and giving me love. My mom has a blue and gold macaw that screams nonstop and bites people. Seems like a no-brainer to me. (And when I say scream, I mean SCREAM. I can scream pretty damn loud, but it is nothing compared to that bird. Holy God it's loud.)

And what's worse, it's only 20 years old, so I'm going to end up inheriting it. Something tells me Chris is going to open his door one day, and find a screaming bird stuffed in a baby carriage, with a note saying "Please take care of my baby."
