10.20.02: movie

It's almost 8am and I'm watching My Fair Lady, picking pomegranates from the tree outside during commercial breaks. Breakfast at Tiffany's was on earlier. I wasn't picking pomegranates then.

Go rent Death to Smoochy. If anything, just for the chance to see Edward Norton dancing around like a loon in a rhino suit. Great great movie.

. . .

For me, it was E.T., although I don't really have much of the movie itself tied to the memory, just flashes of the setting. Hmm, maybe it was Empire Strikes Back. I remember family in the aisle, after the film. Plush maroon curtains next to me, along the wall. I think we're in the old Red Rock Theater... back before it closed, before the casino theaters took over, back when it was one of the nicest in town. My aunt being there. Cousins. Were we a large group?

What is your earliest memory of seeing a movie in the theater?

The first movie i can remember going to see was Disney's The Jungle Book...I also remember being one of the few kids at school who never went to see E.T. when it came out. and to this day i still haven't watched it.

The first movie I ever saw in a theater was The Little Mermaid. I remember there was a big poster for the movie, and it seemed so big.

Mine was Empire Strikes Back. Also at the Red Rock and those snazzy red curtains. Its pretty blurry, but i remember what we did after the movie more clearly. We ate at a pizza joint near the charleston heights bowling alley and I played the arcade game Mouse Trap. wow...memories

Star Wars stole my theater virginity. It scared me and fascinated me at the same time.

Sadly, I cannot remember seeing many movies from early on. I remember some theatres, like the Red Rock, but I don't remember what I saw. I'm pretty sure I saw ET. I'm pretty sure I saw Return of the Jedi. Yet no clear memories. I guess the earliest movie I can specifically remember seeing didn't occur until I was old enough to actually want to go see a specific movie. I asked my mom if we could go to Tranformers: The Movie. I remember arriving at the theatre with my mom and her telling me that it turns out we can't see it because it's not playing at that time. I was pretty sad, but somehow I managed to be content with The Boy Who Could Fly.

I remember going to Jedi, too. I can't remember if I saw Empire in the theatre... I was probably too young. But I do remember E.T. in the theatre... one giant bucket of popcorn, right on my lap. I still love that movie.
