Joss Whedon speaks about Buffy. Also, a load of Buffy farewells. [via fury] Several years ago, the daughter of a co-worker left a box of VHS tapes for me. I'd never seen this Buffy the Vampire Slayer show, but she was enthusiatic about the strong writing and clever dialog and convinced me to give it a try. I took the box home, sat down with my roommate and popped Welcome to the Hellmouth into the VCR. Two weeks later, we'd finished two seasons and were current with the show. I'd never watched so much TV in such a short period of time. We were hooked. Tuesday nights are Buffy night. Friends come over, we eat pizza and watch the show. Tonight is the final episode of Buffy, but we'll probably continue the tradition in some way. Bad/good Armageddon movies might be a fitting way to fill the gap for a bit. Films like A Boy and His Dog and Hardware. Maybe Halo on the LAN. Either way, I'll bet we still call it Buffy night. Barring a few lapses, it's been a good seven years. Thanks, Joss. So anyway. What'd your BTVS story? How were you introduced to the show? Comments
All in all, a decent last episode. Unfortunately, it felt like they squeezed too much into the hour length, two hours(like every other show's series finale) woulda been great, and would have given em a bit more time to wrap things up in the end, too. Wonder when we'll see the next good show. Angel has gotten a lil wonky the last year or so, I only catch it on the rare occasion, tho maybe it'll improve a bit when some of the buffy writers move over. Farscape was great(overall, better than Buffy), but I'm doubting we'll ever see anything else from the series, although with the re-aquisition of Henson Co by the Henson family(Brian Henson was one of the big pushers of the show), who knows what'll happen. Posted by: Chris on May 22, 2003 01:38 AMI was in, I think, 6th grade when Buffy first started. So I didn't watch it then (I doubt I had heard of it). I watched about half of season four the year that it first played, but then stopped. I was just flipping through channels last spring and happened to see the last few episodes of the season, and kind of got hooked. I watched FX reruns all summer, and then watched this season. This season was my least favorite, with seasons 1-3 being my favorites. That's my Buffy story. :) Posted by: Rebecca on May 22, 2003 05:22 PMI saw two episodes with you guys. The writing was abysmal. The directing was hap-hazard. The characters went from brilliant to braindead in the same episode. The decisions and actions of the characters were unpredictable and did not makes sense based upon their past actions. 7 years seems unbelievable to me...but then again the General Public isn't known for its taste... Posted by: Lenny on May 27, 2003 07:52 AMOT. Have you seen Joss Whedon's other series, Firefly, that unfortunately got yanked after only a few episodes? It was also very strong in story line and writting. Joss has some bang up ideas in his head. Artemis Posted by: Artemis on May 30, 2003 12:10 PMYeah, I saw a bit of Firefly, but not enough to actually become hooked.. in hindsight, that's probably a good thing, as I'd have yet another cancelled show to bitch about. :] I've heard Fox will be releasing the Firefly episodes on DVD, so I'll probably rent them sometime once they are out. If you liked Firefly, did you ever watch Farscape? Posted by: Chris on May 30, 2003 03:53 PMPost a comment
