Very nice, it's about time. Having had and beaten pretty much every addiction in the book (Although interestingly I never picked up smoking. Not cigarettes anyway.), my advice is to pick up another addiction. Except make it a good addiction. Work, exercise, your girlfriend, whatever it is. Just completely put yourself into something. Make it so you don't have TIME to think about your old addiction. You'll be surprised at how quickly you get over it.

Also, you might have to change your friend base if a lot of them smoke. When I gave up various addictions, friends often went with them. If for no other reason than I'm really really bad when it comes to peer pressure (Even if it's indirect).

As far as picking up another addiction goes, I just bought a Gameboy Advance SP, so that gives me at least one thing to do to fill in the small gaps here and there when I'd normally smoke.

I've also discovered Dance Dance Revolution.. gf got me a copy and a couple mats for christmas, and man, it's a killer unexpected cardio workout. Hell of a lot more fun than the treadmill at the gym.

As far as friends go, rather than ditch em, my goal is to get the few that smoke on the quitting wagon as well.

Awesome man! The first two weeks are the worst, but after that it's cake. And even if you have a relapse weekend here and there, it's ok. Always remember that you, and not the cigs, are in control.

So what you have to look foreward to is actually remembering your gay dreams about burruss? was the carpet shag or short? did the bed revolve clocksise, or counter-clockwise? Was Erasure playing in the background, or was it Marc Almond???

Are you using any kind of "aid", like gum, patches, etc? Or are you just going to tough it out?

Also - I'd just like to make the point that this entire thread is why I'm for the legalization of drugs. Tobacco and alcohol are horribly addictive, and people are far from surprised when somebody dies from using them. Yet they're legal!

There's no logical reason for having some dangerous, addictive substances be legal, and others (Some of which are much LESS addictive and dangerous) will get you landed in prison. Okay, I'm done ranting now.
